Meet Jay: Your Trusted Korea Travel Guide
Hello! I’m Jay , a Korea travel expert and language educator with 5+ years of hands-on experience living and traveling throughout South Korea. I created With YH to help first-time travelers explore Korea confidently—without the stress, confusion, and cultural missteps that often derail international visitors.
My Journey: From Confused Tourist to Trusted Guide
The Beginning (2019)
When I first arrived in Korea as a tourist in 2019, I was completely overwhelmed. The Korean language felt impossible. The subway system looked like a maze. Restaurant menus were indecipherable. I made countless mistakes—from accidentally ordering the wrong food to getting lost on the subway multiple times.
But I was determined to understand this country.
The Turning Point (2020-2026)
Over the past 5+ years, I’ve lived in Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon. I’ve worked with local communities, studied the Korean language intensively, and navigated every aspect of Korean life—from banking to healthcare to transportation. I’ve made friends with locals, eaten at hundreds of restaurants, and learned the unwritten rules of Korean culture.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that Korea is far easier to navigate than people think—if you know the right tips and tricks.
Why I Started With YH
After helping countless travelers navigate Korea through personal conversations and emails, I realized there was a massive gap in travel information. Most travel guides were either:
- Too generic: Written by people who visited Korea for a week
- Too complicated: Filled with unnecessary details that overwhelmed travelers
- Out of date: Using 2015-2020 information that no longer applies in 2026
So I created With YH to fill that gap with real, tested, experience-based guides written by someone who actually lives here.
What Makes With YH Different
✅ Experience-Based Authority
Every single guide on With YH is based on my personal, hands-on experience—not generic travel advice or outdated information. I’ve:
- Ordered food at 100+ Korean restaurants and learned the etiquette
- Used the subway system thousands of times and know every shortcut
- Navigated Korean apps, payment systems, and digital services
- Lived through Korean seasons, holidays, and cultural events
- Spoken Korean daily and understand common traveler mistakes
✅ Practical, Actionable Guides
I don’t write complicated travel essays. I write step-by-step guides that travelers can use immediately:
- “How to Order Food in Korea” → Actual phrases you can use at restaurants
- “Korea Subway Guide” → Real navigation tips, not just map explanations
- “Korean Phrases for Travelers” → Situational language, not textbook Korean
✅ Current, 2026 Information
Travel information becomes outdated quickly. With YH features:
- 2026 updated prices for transportation, food, and attractions
- Current app recommendations (Kakao T, Naver Map, etc.)
- Real-time travel data from living in Korea right now
- Latest Korean cultural insights and local trends
✅ Traveler-Focused Perspective
I understand the challenges first-time visitors face because I’ve experienced them myself:
- Language barrier anxiety
- Transportation system confusion
- Cultural misunderstandings
- Safety concerns
- Budget optimization
I write from the perspective of someone who has been exactly where you are.
